“Waiting” depicts a patient-looking visitor to the popular wall of Kalk Bay Habour in False Bay, Cape Town, South Africa. Popularly thought of as an incredibly vibrant spot in an extraordinarily colourful community, the fishing harbour of Kalk Bay is captured unusually in black and white photography, pronouncing a wealth of textural contrasts and highlighting somber cloud formations. Strong leading lines draw the viewer’s eye towards the diminutive middle-ground subject and connect it with the foreground subject – a fishing rod – leading the viewer to wonder if the two are connected. “Waiting”, is a beautiful study of patience, turmoil, tranquility, and the tension held between the anxiety and the emptiness of the passage of time.
